Wuli is one of 35 districts - the second highest level of administrative division - in the West African state of Gambia . It is one of four districts in the Upper River Region .
According to a calculation from 2013 about 40,683 inhabitants live there, the result of the last published census of 2003 was 35,856.
The name is derived from Wuli , a former small empire.

According to a survey from 1993 (census at the time), the Mandinka represented the largest population group with a share of around six tenths, followed by the Serahule and the Fula. The distribution in detail: 62.7% Mandinka , 17.3% Fula , 0.1% Wolof , 0.1% Jola , 19.4% Serahule , 0% Serer , 0% Aku , 0% Manjago , 0.1 % Bambara and 0.3% other races.
