Wust el-Balad ( Egyptian - Arabic وسط البلد, DMG Wusṭ al-balad  'in the middle of the country') is a world music band from Egypt , which was founded in 1999 in Cairo by only two of the meanwhile eight members. Wust el-Balad, a band that combines Arabic musical elements with soft rock , is rated as the most successful rock group in Egypt and the whole of the Arab world , as it was the first band in the region to achieve such success and has the largest fan base of all rock bands in the region .

history

After Ahmed Omran and Hany Adel founded the band al-Far ar-Rumadi , it gradually grew to eight members. This made her style more versatile and her different musical backgrounds (Omran is a graduate music student, ed-Din comes from a family of musicians, Omar from Eritrea ) united, with the traditional oriental voice of the singer, Adham es-Said, a counterweight and the "lack of flavor “Represents.

They had their first appearance in a small theater in the opera house, where they performed four songs together with Nass Gedida , the band Sameh Alazabs. Alazab was also the one who suggested the name Wust el-Balad , which they used from then on.

They had their first appearance as Wust el-Balad in al-Maschrabiya , their first paid appearance in the Berlitz Language Center . Since then, Wust el-Balad has had regular appearances in a wide variety of locations and institutions, including abroad.

Her next goal was to reach out to the people who couldn't afford to attend her gigs in bars. Therefore they were the first band to take to the streets in Egypt, for example at the French festival Les Français aiment l'Égypte . In cooperation with the Goethe Institute , they were invited to Germany by the Mayor of Stuttgart and had a gig there in front of an audience of around 10,000. In 2005 they played on the 100th anniversary of Heliopolis in Baghdad Street , where they have given annual spring concerts ever since.

In 2007 Wust el-Balad released their debut album named after them on the Egyptian record label Star Gate Records .
