Wuzhen pian

Das Wuzhen pian ( Chinese  悟真 篇 , Pinyin Wùzhēn piān , W.-G. Wu-chen p'ien , English Folios on Awakening to Reality / Perfection / On Awakening to Transcendental Reality  - “About understanding reality / Essay about that Awakening to Truth ”) is a Daoist work from the year 1075 , which is fundamental for the later southern school of Quanzhen Daoism , in which the doctrine of Neidan - the inner alchemy or the inner elixir - is presented.

Characteristics

Its author, Zhang Boduan ( 張伯 端 , Chang Po-tuan ; 984-1082), was a Chinese Daoist and scholar of the Three Teachings ( Confucianism , Daoism and Buddhism (Chan) ; Chin. Sanjiao yili 三 教 一 理) in the time of the Northern Song Dynasty and one of the Five Patriarchs of the South (Nan wu zu) of the Quanzhen school of Daoism. One of the Eight Immortals - Lü Dongbin - is said to have been one of the first to focus exclusively on Inner Alchemy , and Zhang Boduan is said to have received his knowledge from Lü's student Liu Haichan .

In contrast to the Taoist school of the north, which advocated seclusion and celibacy , the Wuzhen pian sees no need for seclusion. She also rejects the procedure of the Outer Elixir / Alchemy ( waidan外 丹). It transfers the expression of external alchemy to internal changes.

The text consists of 100 chapters in verse form. It has been commented on frequently; the Daoist canon alone contains twelve commentaries and sub-commentaries.
