Paprotno (Świnoujście)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Paprotno (German Friedrichsthal ), usually called Wydrzany , is a district of Świnoujście (Swinoujscie) in the Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship .

location

Paprotno is located on the island of Usedom about 3.5 kilometers southwest of the city center, right on the German-Polish border . West of the border on the German side is the municipality of Kamminke , with which Paprotno is connected by a border crossing for pedestrians and cyclists. About one kilometer to the north is the Garz border crossing on Droga krajowa 93 .

In the area of the border, the peat ditch coming from Wolgastsee near Korswandt runs in a damp lowland to the Stettiner Haff . A larger forest area extends to the east and south-east.

history

The land between Garz and Kaseburg , i.e. the eastern part of the island of Usedom, was sold to the Dargun monastery in 1242 . After the introduction of the Reformation in the Duchy of Pomerania , the property of the Mecklenburg monastery was secularized and administered by the ducal office of Wolgast.

In 1805, the Friedrichsthal forestry was established as a colony in the Kaseburg forest district, consisting of three residential buildings. In 1825 the place became the seat of the new Oberförsterei Friedrichsthal, for which the forest districts Kaseburg and Korswandt were merged. The place Friedrichsthal belonged to the municipality Kamminke. The forest estate Friedrichsthal formed a community-free area.

Towards the end of the Second World War , the island of Usedom was occupied by the Red Army . Friedrichsthal was handed over by the Soviet Union with the eastern part of the island to the People's Republic of Poland after both countries had agreed on the border between Swinoujscie and Greifenhagen by September 21, 1945 . The road between Friedrichsthal and Kamminke was closed. In 1947, a ministerial ordinance established “Paprotno” as the official Polish name of the place. Later the name "Wydrzany" became common.

Larger allotment garden settlements were created north and south of the town center. At the end of 2009, the construction of a new bridge over the peat ditch began. After its completion in 2010, a border crossing for cyclists and pedestrians was opened here.
