The Wyspa Chrząszczewska [ˈvɨspa χʃɔ̃ʃˈt͡ʃɛfska] ( German island Gristow ) is an island in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland .
The island is about 10 km² and is located in the Dziwna ( Dievenow ), one of the three estuary arms of the Oder , between the island of Wolin ( Wollin ) and the mainland of Pomerania near the town of Kamień Pomorski ( Cammin ). The Dziwna has widened into lakes here, south of the island lies the Maade , north of the Zalew Kamieński ( Camminer Bodden ).
The island consists mainly of a chalk limestone clod , which was previously used for limestone mining. There are three localities on the island: Chrząszczewo ( Gristow ), Chrząszczewko ( Neu Gristow ) and Buniewice ( Bünnewitz ). The highest elevation with 26.60 m is called Wyżawa (German high mountain ).
In the water north of the island there is a boulder first mentioned in 1426 , the grote Stein in Water . In the past parts of it were blasted off, today it still has a circumference of about 20 m and protrudes about 2 m from the water.
