Xavien Howard (* 4. July 1993 in Houston , Texas ) is an American American football player at the position of the cornerbacks . He played college football for Baylor University and has been with the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League (NFL) since 2016 .

college

Howard grew up in the Fifth Ward , a troubled neighborhood in Houston , Texas . He attended Wheatley High School, where he befriended William Jackson III , who also came to the NFL as a cornerback in 2016. Howard played his first three years in high school as a quarterback and wide receiver, only in his senior year he played as a cornerback.

Howard played football in college from 2013 to 2015 . He attended Baylor University and played there for the Baylor Bears in the NCAA Division I FBS.

In total, he had 98 tackles , 23 defended passes, ten interceptions , one forced fumble and one touchdown in the three years .

NFL

Howard was selected by the Miami Dolphins in the 2nd round in the 2nd round in a total of 38th place in the 2016 NFL Draft . He was selected as the sixth cornerback in the draft. Howard caught his first interception in the NFL in the play-off game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2016 postseason. In the season 2017 Howard went as a starter. Against the Denver Broncos he succeeded his first defensive touchdown.

Howard was nominated for the Pro Bowl for the first time on December 18, 2018 . Although he missed the last four games of the season due to a ruptured meniscus, Howard recorded the most interceptions of the season with seven interceptions (along with Kyle Fuller and Damontae Kazee ). Before the 2019 season , Howard signed a five-year contract extension that guaranteed him $ 46 million. Bonus payments can increase this amount to up to 76.5 million. This made Howard the highest-paid cornerback in the league.

On the third day of the 2019 season , Howard was sent off for a facemask foul. Coming back in week 8 after a two-week hiatus with a knee injury, he intercepted Mason Rudolph against the Pittsburgh Steelers before injuring his knee again and leaving the field in the second half. After the game he was put on the Injured Reserve List , which ended the season for him.

Howard was arrested on December 30, 2019 for domestic violence. He had pushed his fiancée, with whom he has three children together, into a wall of mirrors during an argument, and she fell.
