Xavier Capellas (born September 18, 1962 in Rubí , Spain ) is a Spanish composer .

biography

Xavier Capellas is the son of a pianist and was trained as a young man, including at the Aula de Música Moderna y Jazz in Barcelona . He was first able to attract attention in 1984 when he took first place at the Festival de Jazz de San Sebastián . He then studied, with credit for his academic achievements in Barcelona, ​​from September 1985 to December 1986 at the Berklee College of Music in Boston . During this time, other Spanish composers such as Lucio Godoy , Eva Gancedo and Alfonso Vilallonga , with whom he shared an apartment, also studied there. After graduating, he moved to California, where he studied film composition at the University of Southern California from 1987 to 1988 . When he returned to Spain in 1989 he began composing his first commissioned works for commercials produced by his brother's agency.

Although Capellas started playing Puta misèria! debuted as a film composer, it was not until the late 1990s that he succeeded in regularly writing music for Spanish films. Since then he has been responsible for the music of Beyond Re-Animator , Obaba and Desperados: A surefire deal .
