In 1878 he made perpetual vows as brother Xavier de Fourvières (or de Fourvière), Provencal: Savié de Fourviero (or Xavièr de Forvièra, depending on the orthography chosen). He was enthusiastic about Provençal, preached successfully in this officially despised language, published a grammar and a dictionary of Provençal (which have been reissued to this day), wrote works in Provencal / Occitan language and became a member (majoral) of Félibrige . As a result of the separation of church and state , he spent the years 1903 to 1912 as prior in Storrington, Horsham (District) . He founded Lou Gau magazine . Revisto mesadiero pèr li revendicacioun de la lengo prouvençalo à l'escolo, dins la cadiero e à la tribuno poupulàri (1897–1911).
A street in Avignon was named after him.
