history
The first signs of a Neolithic settlement are at the source of the Boulon stream at the foot of the Luberon. Phocean ( 6th-5th centuries BC ) and Campanian ( 3rd century BC ) pottery and Massali coins were also found on the Boulon .
In Gallo-Roman times, the place was not far from the Via Domitia , which led from Italy to Spain .
The first written mention of the place name took place in 1233. During the Middle Ages , the inhabitants gave up the settlement on Boulon and founded a fortification at the current location, the walls of which withstood an attack by Raimund von Turenne in 1389 . During the Huguenot Wars in 1562, troops led by François de Beaumont burned the church down. As part of the County of Avignon , Robion originally belonged to the County of Provence , then to the County of Toulouse . In 1348 the village passed into papal ownership together with the Comtat Venaissin . At the beginning of the seventeenth century, Robion was separated from Cavaillon by a plague wall. In memory of the plague victims, the Saint Roch chapel was built in 1632 . In 1784 the lordship went to Louis-Paul, Marquis de Brancas, who was also Knight of the Order of the Holy Spirit . Robion was not spared the unrest of the French Revolution . In 1794 insurgents destroyed the lord's house and there were also several executions. Around 1900 the historic old town was depopulated. Between 1924 and 1926 the community was electrified .
