Lacoste is a French municipality with 409 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) and an area of 10.6 square kilometers in the department of Vaucluse and the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .
geography
The place is about 40 kilometers as the crow flies southeast of Avignon and 60 kilometers north of Marseille and 40 kilometers north of Aix-en-Provence . The small town of Apt is about 12 kilometers to the northeast as the crow flies. Lacoste is located on a mountainside at an altitude of about 320 meters above sea level on the northern edge of the Luberon Mountains . The municipality is part of the Luberon Regional Nature Park . The famous tourist resorts of Roussillon and Gordes are nearby .
history
La Coste as a fiefdom passed into the possession of the House of Sade in 1627 through the marriage of Diane de Simiane, Dame de la Coste with Jean-Baptiste de Sade .

Description of coat of arms : In the gold and red quartered coat of arms there is a blue crenellated tower in the first and fourth fields and a gold eight-pointed star in the second and third . A white fallen dove lies on a black cross with eight ball-studded arm tips on and above the crossing .
Attractions
Above the village are the ruins of the Lacoste castle of the same name . These castle ruins have been rebuilt for several years with the support of the French fashion designer Pierre Cardin and can be visited for a fee (as of May 2015). It is also known nationwide as it was the residence of Donatien-Alphonse-François de Sade in the 18th century . Today, the European headquarters of the Savannah College of Arts and Design is located in the historic outer area of the castle .
Bonnieux , located just a few kilometers to the east on a hilltop, offers a beautiful view of Lacoste.
