Bonnieux is a french commune with 1,315 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Vaucluse department in the region of Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur . The municipality covers an area of ​​51.12 km² and the mean height is 425 meters above sea level.

Bonnieux is about 50 kilometers as the crow flies southeast of Avignon and about 70 kilometers north of Marseille on the northern slope of the Luberon on a steep mountain cone. The city of Apt is 10 kilometers to the northeast. The municipality is part of the Luberon Regional Nature Park .

Attractions

The place has a historical cityscape with two churches from the 12th and 19th centuries and remains of the city fortifications from the 13th century. In the middle of the village there is a church that combines both Romanesque and Gothic styles . Houses from the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries stand in the picturesque narrow streets. The Musee de la Boulangerie provides information about bread and baking traditions. From the vantage point at the church (vielle Eglise) above the old town, the view extends to Mont Ventoux . A special feature is one of the six "La Louve" gardens without flowers created by the world-famous landscape designer Nicole de Vesian . The weekly market takes place on Friday morning.
