Cabrières-d'Avignon is a French commune with 1,816 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Vaucluse in the region Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur .
geography
The village is located on the Monts de Vaucluse , on a mountain slope with a view of the Luberon Mountains. The municipality is part of the Luberon Regional Nature Park .
history
In the eleventh to twelfth centuries, the castle of the Adhemar family was built. Cabrières was the center of the Waldensian resistance and was destroyed in a massacre on April 19, 1545. In 1720 a plague epidemic reached Provence and led to the construction of the plague wall , which runs west of the municipality.
