history
The first traces of human settlement go back to the Neolithic . In the Sainte-Guimelle cave , tombs and pottery from this period were discovered.
The first written mention in 1253 tells of a small castle around which the place developed. The name of the place ( Provencal talhada , translated: “cut” , “split” ) indicates quarrying activities . In 1269, the Provence Count and King of Naples Charles I gave the castle and the surrounding estates as a fief to Imbert and Wilhelm von Sabran. In 1338 the feud went to Hugo von Marle, whose son George was Seneschal of Provence. In 1398 George von Marle defeated the troops of Vice Count Raimund von Turenne in Pertuis , who fled to the southern Luberon and devastated numerous lands there. As a result, the Benedictines of Saint-Jean Baptiste left the monastery of Taillades and hid in Cavaillon. In 1455 the Seneschal's son, Roland de Marle, sold his property to Gaucher de Forcalquier, Bishop of Gap . In 1619 the medieval fortress was replaced by a new castle that belonged to the owner of Taillades until the Revolution. The old town began to be depopulated in the mid-nineteenth century.
