Xavier Bout de Marnhac

Xavier Bout de Marnhac (born July 7, 1951 in Trier ) is a Général de corps d'armée of the French army . From 2007 to 2008 he was the commander of KFOR and from 2010 to 2012 the head of the EU rule of law mission EULEX.

Military career

After graduating from the Saint-Cyr military school in 1971, he worked as an officer in the arms blindée et cavalerie . As a lieutenant he served in the 7th Jägerregiment ( 7 e Régiment de chasseurs ), as Capitaine commandant d'unité élémentaire he commanded a reconnaissance company of the 4th Hussar Regiment , as a colonel a battalion of the 12th Cuirassier Regiment . For four years he was in command of a special operations command team in the 1st Marine Infantry Regiment. From 1993 to 1996, de Marnhac was security and intelligence advisor to the French Defense Minister (then François Léotard and Charles Millon ). Three years later he joined the French Foreign Intelligence Service (DGSE) , initially (1999) as Deputy Director, and from 2000 to 2004 as Director of Operations.

Xavier Bout de Marnhac served on foreign assignments in Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa. He was transferred to Germany on business ( 2 e corps d'armée in Baden-Baden ) and completed a general staff course (1987-1989) at the Command and General Staff College in the United States.

In 2001 he was promoted to the Général de brigade , in 2005 to the Général de division and in 2007 to the Général de corps d'armée . From August 2005 to February 2006 he was Deputy Commander of KFOR.

In July 2010, de Marnhac was appointed the new head of the EU rule of law mission EULEX Kosovo , succeeding his compatriot and also former KFOR commander Yves de Kermabon .

Private life

Xavier Bout de Marnhac is married and has five daughters and four grandchildren.
