Yves de Kermabon

Yves de Kermabon (born November 4, 1948 in Marvejols , Lozère ) is a general a. D. of the French Army . He was Commander of KFOR from 2004 to 2005 and Head of Mission of the EU rule of law mission EULEX from 2008 to 2010.

Military career

Yves de Kermabon attended the Saint-Cyr Military Academy from 1970 and started training as an artillery and cavalry officer . For the longest time he served in the 1st Cavalry Regiment of the Foreign Legion (1st REC). There he rose from platoon leader ( Sous-lieutenant ) to company commander ( Capitaine commandant d'unité élémentaire ) to colonel and regimental commander.

During his time as company commander he was sent to Africa three times: to Chad (1978 and 1979) and to the Central African Republic in 1981. As commander of the 1st REC, he and his foreign legionaries served six months in the context of the UN interim administration in Cambodia .

De Kermabon also served in various staff functions within the French army: he was advisor to the General Troop Inspector (1984–1987), deputy head of the Army Department in the Military Cabinet of the Ministry of Defense (1989–91), chief of staff of the 6th Light Armored Division (1994–1997) and head of cabinet General Director of the Army Personnel Office (1997–1998).

During his service in the 6th Light Armored Division he took part in two missions abroad in the former Yugoslavia: in his first mission from January to May 1995 as deputy commander of the Sarajevo sector within UNPROFOR , in his second mission from December 1995 to May 1996 as Chief of Staff of the Multinational Division South-East of the IFOR Protection Forces .

After his promotion to Général de brigade in October 1998, he was deputy head of department for recruitment and personnel recruitment in the Army Personnel Office. From August 2000 to October 2002 he was commander of the 6th Light Armored Division.

During this time he was commander of the Multinational Brigade (MNB) North in Mitrovica , Kosovo for four months . On October 1, 2002 he was promoted to general de division and was given command of the command staff 4 of the task forces. In March 2003 he was used again in Kosovo, this time as deputy. Commander KFOR for six months.

From September 1, 2004 to August 31, 2005 he was tenth commander Kosovo Force (COMKFOR). His last promotion to the Général de corps d'armee was in October 2004.

In February 2008 de Kermabon was appointed head of the EU crisis mission EULEX Kosovo .

Kermabon is married and has five children.
