Xeranthemum inapertum is an annual stem therophyte that reaches heights of 10 to 40 centimeters. The plant is slightly aromatic. The leaves are narrowly lanceolate, with entire margins, mostly rolled up and thickly white felted underneath. They measure 20 to 65 × 2 to 8 millimeters. The bracts are all the same. They are broadly ovate and glabrous with a short spiked tip. The inner ones are 13 to 17 millimeters in size, lanceolate and mostly light pink in color. The heads are arranged on long, leafless stems. They are longer than they are wide and contain 30 to 45 flowers .

The flowering period extends from June to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28.

Occurrence

Xeranthemum inapertum occurs in the eastern Mediterranean and montane in the eastern sub-Mediterranean, continental area. The species grows in open pine forests, phrygana and hedgehog cushion heaths at altitudes of 500 to 1800 meters.
