location

In the vicinity of Xianyang are the "Five Mausoleums" (Xi Han wuling, 西汉 五 陵) on the "Plateau of the Five Mausoleums" (Wuling Yuan, 五 陵 塬). It is named after the mausoleums of the emperors Gao Zu (Liu Bang, 206–195 BC), Hui Di (Liu Yin, 195–188 BC), Jing Di (Liu Qi, 157–141 BC) , Wu Di (Liu Che, 141–87 BC) and Zhao Di (Liu Foling, 87–74 BC). There are four more mausoleums that were built later. The Maoling mausoleum is the furthest to the west and is the largest of the 9 tombs. The Han Yangling Mausoleum is located furthest to the east. The distance between the two is 36 km as the crow flies. The emperors Wen Di (文帝) (Liu Heng, 180–157 BC) and Xuan Di (宣帝) (Liu Xun, 74–49 BC) left their tombs south of the Wei River and thus outside the area the Wuling Plain.
