The Shadzong Monastery ( Tib. : Shwa rdzong dgon ) is a monastery of Tibetan Buddhism in Qinghai . It is located in Ping'an County ( tsong kha mkhar ) of Haidong in the Tsongkha area of Amdo . It was founded at the end of the Yuan Dynasty . It is one of the most important monasteries in the region.

In 1359 Rölpe Dorje ( Tib .: rol pa'i rdo rje ; 1340-1383), the 4th Karmapa of the Karma Kagyu School of Tibetan Buddhism, stayed here on his trip to the capital of the Yuan dynasty and gave during During his stay the three-year-old Tsongkhapa (1357–1419) - from whose teachings the Gelug School of Tibetan Buddhism later emerged - the novice ordination.

The convent was the effect site of Chojey Dondrub Rinchen ( Cho RJE don grub rin chen ; 1309-1385), the first teacher of Tsongkhapa and founder of Chakhyung convent ( Tib. Bya khyung dgon pa ), and Öser Gyatsho ( od zer rgya mtsho ), the 1st throne holder of the Kumbum monastery .

The monastery is on the list of monuments in Qinghai Province .
