Xizhou ( Chinese 喜 洲 , Pinyin Xǐzhōu ) is a city 20 km north of the city of Dali in the Dali Autonomous District in Yunnan Province and about 1 km west of Lake Er Hai . Xizhou has included the surrounding villages about 60,000 inhabitants, mainly the nationality of Bai belong.
history
Xizhou was an important city in the time of the Nanzhao Kingdom (737–902 AD) as a military base and trading center. During the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), the city benefited from the Tea Horse Road , also known as the Southern Silk Road, and exported tea and marble to other parts of Asia.
During the Second World War, Xizhou served as the base for the Flying Tigers squadron , in which Chinese and American forces fought together against the Japanese occupation.
