YC Wang

Wang Yung-ching , YC Wang ( Chinese  王永慶  /  王永庆 , Pinyin Wáng Yǒngqìng , W.-G. Wang Yung-ch'ing ) (born January 18, 1917 in Taipei , Taiwan ; † October 15, 2008 in Short Hills , New Jersey ) was a Taiwanese entrepreneur .

Life

Born into a poor farming family, Wang began working in a rice shop when he was 15 (1932). In 1933, at the age of 16, he had his own rice business. In 1955 he founded Formosa Plastics Corporation and headed the Taiwanese company until 2006. Formosa Plastics Corporation became one of the largest plastics producers in the world.

According to US Forbes Magazine , Wang was one of the richest Taiwanese and was listed in The World's Billionaires in 2005 .

Wang was married in two marriages and had two daughters and eight sons. The eldest son Winston Wang from his second marriage founded Grace Semiconductor Manufacturing in 2000 together with the Chinese entrepreneur Jiang Mianheng , the son of the former Chinese President Jiang Zemin . A daughter, Charlene Wang, from his second marriage, founded First International Computer and another daughter, Cher Wang, from his second marriage, founded High Tech Computer Corporation (HTC) and VIA Technologies .

He died on October 15, 2008 at the age of 91.
