Ya Ya is a song by Lee Dorsey that was first released in 1961. It can essentially be assigned to the genre of rhythm & blues , but also contains elements of soul .

Authorship and Inclusion

Written been Ya Ya by Lee Dorsey, Clarence Lewis and Morgan "Bobby" Robinson . The text , according to Robinson, was inspired by a nursery rhyme : he watched children swinging on a veranda and caught the line "Sittin 'in the la la". This then became "I'm sitting here la la waiting for my Ya Ya".

Producer was Allen Toussaint, arranger was Harold Battiste .

Publications

Morgan “Bobby” Robinson released Ya Ya as a single on his Fury label in 1961 ( B-side : Give Me You ). In the following years the song was re-released by several labels, mostly on compilations .

Charts and reception

Ya Ya peaked at number 7 on the Billboard Singles Chart ; In the rhythm and blues charts, the song made it to the top - number 1.

When Tony Sheridan and the Beat Brothers recorded their version of Ya Ya , no Beatle was involved - but John Lennon seems to have liked the song very much, he covered it for two of his solo albums : Walls and Bridges closes with an excerpt from the song where Lennon then eleven year old son Julian on drums is heard. And rock 'n' roll is Ya Ya heard in full: was also released as a single (B-side: Be-Bop-A-Lula ).
