The mountain Cerro Yacuma is a mountain peak in the South American Andes high mountains in Bolivia and is located east of Lake Titicaca and in the north of the Bolivian seat of government La Paz . At 5974  m , the summit barely misses the 6000-meter mark and is the southernmost peak of the Illampú mountain range, which also includes Ancohuma , two kilometers to the northeast , at 6,425 m, the third highest mountain in Bolivia and the second highest peak of the Cordillera Real . Sometimes the name Nevado de Sorata is used for the Illampú massif , after the small town of Sorata on the western slopes of the Illampú massif.

geography

The Cordillera Real consists of deep rocks from the Paleozoic Era , into which further plutonites penetrated during the Mesozoic Era up to the Tertiary period . These plutonites were exposed by erosion in the Tertiary and Quaternary and today form the peaks of the Illampú massif. The Yacuma is covered with snow all year round, the Yacuma Glacier stretches to the southwest and southeast, whose glacier water feeds, among other things, the mountain lake Laguna San Francisco .
