Yakov Soroker
Yakov Soroker ( Russian Яков Львович Сорокер Jakow Lwowitsch Soroker , Hebrew יעקב סורוקר; * May 4, 1920 in Bessarabia ; † March 6, 1995 in Jerusalem ) was a Soviet-Israeli violinist and musicologist.
Soroker studied first in Chișinău , then at the Moscow Conservatory with David Oistrach . In 1955 he completed his studies with a dissertation on Beethoven's violin sonatas. From 1962 to 1986 he taught music history and theory at the Pedagogical Institute in Drohobych . He has published numerous monographs and articles on, among others, Beethoven and Sergei Prokofjew and the violinists Joseph Szigeti , Michael Goldstein and David Oistrach. From 1976 he lived in Jerusalem.
