Yale Strom (born June 23, 1957 in Detroit ) is an American filmmaker, musician, composer, writer and photographer.

Strom studied American studies, Jewish studies and furniture design from 1979 to 1984 at New York University, among others . Since the early 1980s, he made almost eighty trips through Central and Eastern Europe, researching Roma and Jewish music, soon focusing on klezmer music since the end of World War II. He documented the results of his research in photo books and exhibitions, CD recordings and documentaries such as At the Crossroads: Jews in Eastern Europe Today (1990) and The Last Klezmer - Leopold Kozlowski : His Life and His Music (1994).

In 1981 Strom founded the klezmer band Hot Pstromi for which he composed himself. In addition, chamber music works and a symphony were created, which was premiered by the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra . He also composed the music for the performance of Tony Kushner's The Dybbuk in Denver Center , the music for the series Fiddlers, Philosophers & Fools: Jewish Short Stories from the Old World to the New of National Public Radio that of Leonard Nimoy was moderated and film - and ballet music.

He is Artist in Residence of the Jewish Studies Program at San Diego State University , gave master classes as a klezmer violinist with the American String Teachers Association and taught klezmer music at the Mark O'Connor Fiddle Camp .
