This discography is an overview of the musical works of the American punk and rock musician and songwriter Patti Smith and her Patti Smith Group (1976–1979). Since her career began in 1974, Smith managed to place albums and singles in the charts worldwide for more than three decades. Smith's most successful solo release is the single Because the Night (1978), written by her and Bruce Springsteen , with more than 250,000 units sold only in the United Kingdom and chart positions in numerous other countries. Albums and singles were also represented in the genre-specific alternative , rock and mainstream rock charts .
