Kevin Shields (born May 21, 1963 in Queens , New York City ) is an American singer , guitarist and record producer . He is best known as the front man on My Bloody Valentine .

biography

Shields, who was born in the United States and is a US citizen, emigrated with his family to the Irish city ​​of Dublin when he was nine . There he met Colm O'Ciosoig know. With him he played in various bands and in 1984 they founded the group My Bloody Valentine together with Dave Conway .

Several EPs and albums were released at Creation Records . The ever increasing perfectionism Shields led to the fact that the record company almost went bankrupt with the production of the album Loveless (14 different sound engineers worked with). In 1991 a recording contract was signed with Island Records . However, when over £ 500,000 were spent with no significant results, the contract was terminated and the band fell apart. Rumors of a reunion of My Bloody Valentine kept coming up, but in February 2013 the comeback album mbv was finally released .

Shields used the band's break to work with Experimental Audio Research , Curve , Dinosaur Jr. , Yo La Tengo , Mogwai and Primal Scream as guest musicians or as producers and remixers. He wrote several songs for Lost in Translation , Sofia Coppola's film . In 2005 he played at the Meltdown Festival with Patti Smith .

Kevin Shields' brother Jimi Shields is also active as a musician and played with Rollerskate Skinny and Lotus Crown .

Trivia

The music magazine Rolling Stone put Shields at number 95 on Rolling Stone's List of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time .
