Yang Wenyi ( Chinese  楊文 意 , Pinyin Yáng Wényì ; born January 11, 1972 in Shanghai , China ) is a former Chinese swimmer and Olympic champion.

At the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul , she won the silver medal in the 50 meter freestyle at the age of 16. Four years later at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona , it was finally enough to win gold in the same discipline. With the Chinese relay she also reached 2nd place in the 4 × 100 m freestyle.

In April 1988 Yang improved the world record for the 50 meter freestyle by 30 hundredths of a second to 00: 24.98 minutes. This made her the first woman who needed less than 25 seconds over this distance. She improved this record four years later when she won the Olympic Games in Barcelona by 19 hundredths of a second.
