Career

With little experience in karting , Cunha began his motorsport career in formula racing in 2008 . For Razia Sports he took part in three racing weekends in the South American Formula 3 Championship . Without having scored any points, he finished the season in 21st place. In 2009, Cunha competed for the entire season in South American Formula 3 for Razia Sports. He was on the podium seven times and ended the season as the best driver who had not won a race in fifth place in the championship. In 2010 Cunha switched to Bassan Motorsport . With five wins he won the championship title ahead of Bruno Andrade . He also made his first racing experience in Europe and took part in one racing weekend each in the British Formula 3 championship and the British Formula Renault .

In 2011 , Cunha competed for T-Sport in the British Formula 3 championship and for the Hache team in the European F3 Open , at five of eight events. Cunha finished the season of the British championship with -36 points in 26th and last place in the drivers' championship. The negative score came about because 40 points were deducted. Cunha had taken part in a Formula 3 race of another Formula 3 championship on a track on which the British Formula 3 championship also hosted an event. This was a violation of the sporting regulations. In the European F3 Open, Cunha won a race, was on the podium three times and was ninth in the drivers' standings at the end of the season. In addition, he finished second behind Lucas Foresti at the 2011 F3 Brazil Open .

In 2012 , Cunha competed with Zoël Amberg for Pons Racing in the Formula Renault 3.5 . Both pilots received a two-year contract. In contrast to Amberg, who scored one point, Cunha remained without points and finished the season in 29th place. He also competed for Ombra Racing for two race weekends in the Auto GP World Series . In 2013 , despite the original contract, Cunha left Pons Racing and switched to AV Formula within Formula Renault 3.5 . Cunha remained without points and reached 27th place in the overall standings, while his teammate Arthur Pic was eighth with 74 points.
