Yasemin Utku (* 1967 in Cologne ) is an architect and spatial planner and has been a professor for urban development and planning practice at the Technical University of Cologne since 2018 . In numerous essays and publications as well as a number of her research projects, she focuses on the structural change in North Rhine-Westphalia and on the preservation of urban monuments, most recently in relation to post-war modernism .

Life

Yasemin Utku grew up in Cologne on the right bank of the Rhine and initially trained as a florist from 1983 to 1986 . From 1990 she studied architecture at the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences until she graduated in 1994. After receiving a scholarship at the Bauhaus Dessau in 1994, she worked as a freelancer and, from 1996, studied spatial planning at the University of Dortmund , which she completed in 2000 with a diploma.

From 2003 to 2009 she worked as a research assistant in research and teaching at the Institute for Spatial Planning at TU Dortmund University. From 2008 to 2014 teaching assignments in architecture, spatial planning and urban development at RWTH Aachen University , TU Dortmund University, Cologne District Government , Alanus University Alfter and Cologne Technical University followed. Between 2011 and 2013 she was a substitute professor for urban planning and urban planning at the FH Dortmund in the department of architecture. Then she taught and researched again at the TU Dortmund, Faculty of Spatial Planning, Department of Urban Development, Urban Design and Urban Development Planning. In addition to her academic work, Utku worked as a freelance urban planner and architect in Dortmund from 2001 to 2018.

In 2018 Yasemin Utku was appointed professor at TH Köln.

Utku is a founding member of the NRW urban preservation group as well as the ruhrmoderne eV initiative and a member of other committees and bodies.
