Yasuhisa Yamamura ( Japanese 山村 康 久 Yamamura Yasuhisa ; born December 10, 1964 in Hyōgo Prefecture ) is a Japanese computer game designer who works for the console and game manufacturer Nintendo . As a level designer, he took part in the development of various games in the The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario series. In conversation about his work on the action adventure game The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening , he specified the design of routes, the placement of opponents and the creation of game environments as his work. Yamamura's level design philosophy takes into account that experienced players can skip individual areas using shortcuts, emphasizing the importance of omission and its effects. As a regular visitor to the arcade , he collects used circuit boards . He is also known by the nickname "Yamahem" or "Yamahen" ( や ま へ む Yamahemu ). In 2006, his work on card and level design was nominated by New Super Mario Bros. for the National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers Award in the “Game Design” category. The character of the pigeon Yamamura, who made her debut in the platform game Super Mario Maker , was named after Yasuhisa Yamamura.
