Yasushi Hirano

Yasushi Hirano ( Japanese 平野 和 , Hirano Yasushi ; born 1977 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese opera singer with a bass-baritone voice .

Life

Hirano studied at Nihon University in Tokyo until 1996 , then at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna , where he graduated with honors in 2007. Rotraud Hansmann and Robert Holl were among his teachers .

His first engagements took him to the Rheinsberg Castle Chamber Opera (Emireno in Handel's Ottone ) and to the Salzburg Festival in 2006 (as the leader of the youth gang in the world premiere of Henze's Gogo no Eiko ). In the 2007/08 season he was engaged at the Graz Opera, in 2008 he sang Voce di Nettuno in Mozart's Idomeneo under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt and in 2011 Micha in Smetana's Bartered Bride - both at styriarte in Graz. The singer has been a member of the Volksoper Vienna ensemble since autumn 2008. There he sang the title role in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro and the speaker in his Magic Flute , the Philebos in Zemlinsky's King Kandaules , the Kaluna in Abraham's Flower of Hawaii and a number of Puccini roles: the Collie La Bohème , the sacristan in Tosca , Mandarin and Timur in Turandot , Uncle Bonze and Yakusidé in Madama Butterfly and Signa's Betto in Gianni Schicchi . He was also seen and heard in Rossini, Verdi and Bizet operas in Haus am Gürtel: as Alidoro and Basilio, as Doctor Grenvil, Sparafucile and Ferrando, and as Zuniga. His repertoire also includes operas by Richard Strauss and Benjamin Britten , as well as Don Fernando in Beethoven's Fidelio . In 2015 he made his debut as Guglielmo in the new popular opera production of Mozart's Così fan tutte .

In 2010 he made his debut at the NNTT in his hometown as a ghost messenger in Frau ohne Schatten by Hofmannsthal and Strauss. He returned there in 2012 as Leporello in Da Pontes and Mozart's Don Giovanni and in 2013 as Re in Verdi's Aida . He also sang several times at the Tyrolean Festival Erl . In 2015 he made his debut at the Bregenz Festival as a mandarin in Puccini's Turandot . He sang the same role in 2016 in Bregenz, where he became additionally Luciano and the First Gravedigger in the rediscovery Amleto of Franco Faccio .

In addition to his opera engagements, Yasushi Hirano can also be heard regularly as a concert singer, for example in Italy, Holland, Serbia, the Czech Republic, Japan and Germany. Together with his wife, the pianist Sayuri Hirano, he also organized a series of recitals, mainly with works by Schubert , Schumann and Mahler .
