Yavuz Baydar

Yavuz Baydar (* 1956 or 1958 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish journalist and blogger . He is co-founder of the independent media platform P 24 in Istanbul and is considered the first Turkish media ombudsman. In Germany he is known for his Turkish diary , which appears in the Süddeutsche Zeitung .

Life

Baydar was born in Istanbul. He completed middle school and high school in Eskişehir, Central Anatolia . He left Turkey to study and went to Stockholm. Baydar studied cybernetics and computer science there . In 1980 he became a radio presenter on the daily Turkish-language program for the radio company Sveriges Riksradio (RR). He carried out this task with two interruptions until 1992. In addition, his television career began in 1982 with the weekly children's program in Turkish. In 1983, Baydar became news editor and spokesman for the weekly Turkish language news program on Swedish television. From 1982 to 1984 Baydar graduated from the College of Journalism in Stockholm.

In 1992 Baydar went to Paris and worked for the news channel Show TV for a year and then until 1994 for the BBC World Service .

Baydar returned to Turkey in 1994, where he worked as a journalist for the newspaper Yeni Yüzyıl and from 1997 as editor-in-chief of the radio station Show Radyo . In 1999 he became the Milliyet newspaper's first media ombudsman . From 2001 onwards, Baydar held various functions at the Organization of News Ombudsmen , including as chairman.

In 2004 he accepted a position at Sabah . Further stations were CNN Türk and TRT-Haber . From 2007 Baydar also wrote for the English language Today's Zaman . In 2014 he and colleagues founded the independent media platform P 24 .

After Koza-İpek-Holding and with it İpek Medya Grubu were placed under forced administration at the end of 2015, Baydar switched to the Haberdar platform.
