Ydnekachew Tessema

Ydnekachew Tessema , also Yidnekachew Tessema ( Amharic ይድነቃቸው ተሰማ ; * September 11, 1921 in Jimma ; † August 19, 1987 in Addis Ababa ) was among other things president of the African football association CAF from 1972 to 1987, national football player of Ethiopia and co-founder of the Ethiopian football association .

Between 1948 and 1954 he played 15 times for the Ethiopian national football team and scored one goal. At 14 he joined the football club Saint-George SA and played for him for 23 years. He is said to have been the first Ethiopian footballer to play with football boots .

After his active football days he was coach of his club St. George and national coach of his country. Under his direction, the national team achieved their greatest success, the 1962 African championship . His first live radio commentary on a football game in 1963 was for the World Cup qualifier against Israel from Tel Aviv.
