Yeşilyurt is a Kurdish village in the Turkish district of Cizre, 10 km southwest of the district capital Cizre . The village was formerly called Cinibir. It is located on the plain near the Turkish-Syrian border and within sight of the mountains Cudi and Gabar .

Yeşilyurt received pan-Turkish attention after an event that took place on the night of January 14-15, 1989. Security forces searched Yeşilyurt for fighters and tried to force the villagers to talk. They made the men do push-ups, humiliated them, beat them, and forced them to eat human excrement. Four of the humiliated went to court, including the then Muhtar Abdurrahman Müştak. Several proceedings followed. The Court of Cassation in Ankara eventually sentenced the colonel to a short prison term that was converted into a fine. The ECHR sentenced Turkey to pay damages of FF 300,000 per person.

There was a rift within the village in the mid-1990s, as many men in the village were recruited as village guards . 18 families ( hane ) left the village.

Orhan Müstak comes from Yeşilyurt.
