Yeol Eum Son

Yeol Eum Son ( 손열음 , Son Yeol-eum ; born May 2, 1986 in Wonju , South Korea ) is a South Korean pianist .

Life

Yeol Eum Son started playing the piano at the age of 3 ½ years. At the age of 12 she began her studies with pianist Kim Dae-jin, and at the age of 16 she went to the Korean National University of Arts to continue her studies. Later she was a student in Arie Vardi's piano class at the Music Academy in Hanover , where she has lived since then.

In 2004 she toured Asia with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra under Lorin Maazel , including Seoul . In July 2009 she played as a soloist with the Czech Philharmonic under Juraj Valčuha and Vilde Frang (violin). In the following Kissinger Sommer (2010) she gave her own piano recital. In 2011 Son won the 2nd prize at the XIV International Tchaikovsky Competition . In addition, she received the 1st prize for the best performance of the commissioned composition by Rodin Shchedrin and the 1st prize for the best chamber music interpretation.
