Stefan Portmann (born April 29, 1984 ) is a Swiss grass skier . He is a member of the Swiss Grasski national team, was two-time junior world champion in 2003 and finished second in the overall World Cup in 2009 . He has been married to the grass skier Anna-Lena Büdenbender from Germany since 2011 .

Career

As a teenager, Stefan Portmann achieved his greatest successes at the 2003 Junior World Championships in Goldingen . After only narrowly missing the podium twice in the previous year , in 2003 he won two gold medals in slalom and in combination, a silver medal in super-G and a bronze medal in giant slalom, making him the most successful participant in this event. The next year, at the 2004 Junior World Championships in Rettenbach, Austria, two bronze medals in slalom and in combination were added. At the World Championships for adults, Stefan Portmann has so far remained without a medal, but achieved several top 10 results. From 2005 to 2009 a sixth place was his best result: 2005 in the combination, 2007 in the Super-G and 2009 in the giant slalom. In 2011 he was fourth in the super combined, fifth in the giant slalom and seventh in the super-G, again just missing the medal ranks. At the national level, Portmann is one of the strongest grass skiers. He is a multiple Swiss champion and won all four titles in slalom, giant slalom, super-G and combined in 2005, for example. From 2006 to 2012 another 17 Swiss championship titles were added.

In the World Cup , which has been held since 2000, Stefan Portmann is the most successful Swiss so far. He achieved his best overall results to date in the seasons 2008 (3rd overall) and 2009 (2nd overall): On August 16, 2008, he celebrated his first World Cup victory in the slalom on Marbachegg . With another podium place (3rd place in the slalom of Čenkovice ), a total of eight top 10 results in ten World Cup races and also one victory and three podium places in FIS races , he achieved in the overall World Cup 2008 behind the Italian Edoardo Frau and the Austrian Michael Stocker third place. Stefan Portmann was also very consistent in the 2009 season. He only dropped out in one of the eleven World Cup races and was otherwise always among the fastest six. He reached the podium four times, finishing third three times and achieving his best result of the season with second place in the Super-G on the Marbachegg. In addition, there are two podium places in FIS races, with which he was able to improve by one place in the overall World Cup and took second place behind the Czech Jan Němec . In the 2010 season, Portmann achieved fifth place overall; in 2011 , when he finished eighth for the first time since 2004, he was no longer among the top five in the overall World Cup. In the 2012 season, Portmann was able to improve again: On June 30, 2012, he celebrated his second World Cup victory in the giant slalom on Marbachegg and finished second in the giant slalom and the second Super-G by Dizin twice on the podium. With a total of eight top 5 placements in twelve World Cup races, he finished fourth in the overall World Cup.
