Yi-Sun-sin Bridge

The Yi-Sun-sin Bridge ( kor.  이순신 대교 ) is a suspension bridge opened in South Korea in 2012 . With a span of 1545 m, it is currently the fourth longest suspension bridge in the world. The entire structure is 2260 m long. The pylons are 273 m, the highest in the world. The roadway girder is 29 m wide and has four lanes.

The structure, originally called Gwangyang Bridge , leads the access road to the Yeosu Industrial Complex from Gwangyang to Myodo Island ( 묘도 ). Today the bridge is named after the Korean military leader Yi Sun-sin , whereby the year of birth of Yi Sun-sin corresponds to the central span of the bridge in meters .

The bridge crosses the entrance to the bay Gwangyangman ( 광양만 ) comprising a part of the Korea road is. At the north head of the bridge is one of the largest steelworks in the world, operated by POSCO . There is a large petroleum refinery at the south end .

The Yi-Sun-sin Bridge was designed by Yooshin Engineering Corporation and built by Daelim Industrial . Construction began in October 2007. In order to be able to complete the bridge by Expo 2012 , sliding formwork from an Austrian company was used for the concrete pylons . The bridge was opened on May 10, 2012, two days before the start of the world exhibition in Yeosu .
