Younes Ouaqasse

Younes Ouaqasse (born November 18, 1988 in Mannheim ) is a CDU official of Moroccan descent. Ouaqasse has been active in the EPP since 2014 and was chairman of the International Commission of the Young Union of Germany for Foreign, European and Security Policy from 2014 to 2017 .

From 2012 to 2015 he was state chairman of the RCDS Thuringia. From December 2012 to December 2014 he was a member of the federal executive committee of the CDU . Before that, he was national chairman of the Schüler Union from 2008 to 2010 and, in 2011, editor-in-chief of the Junge Union magazine Die Decision .

Life

Younes Ouaqasse was born in Mannheim to Moroccan parents. After his parents separated, he went to live with his grandparents in Morocco at the age of four. There he attended elementary school. He returned to Germany when he was eight. Because of his language deficits he got a recommendation for a secondary school. At the age of 16 he received German citizenship . After graduating from secondary school, he went on to school and finally began studying business administration in Jena in 2010 . After graduating, he worked as a management consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers and Ernst & Young . From 2019 to 2020 he was the office manager of the Secretary General of the CDU in Germany, Paul Ziemiak .

politics

At the age of 15, Ouaqasse began to be interested in politics and joined the Schüler Union in his hometown of Mannheim. In 2005, at the age of 16, he became a member of the CDU and the Junge Union . After being involved at the district level, he was elected as an assessor on the federal board of the Schüler Union Deutschlands in November 2006 . At the 36th national school conference in Berlin, Ouaqasse was elected chairman of the school student union. He was re-elected on March 28, 2009 in Bremen . On May 30, 2010, Ouaqasse did not run for another term in the Student Union for reasons of age. As chairman of the RCDS -Thuringia, Ouaqasse calls for the introduction of online elections at universities and described data protection concerns in online elections as “ fear of progress and ignorance”.

Younes Ouaqasse was the first chairman of a CDU association with a migration background . He is an avowed Muslim, but rejects Islamic religious instruction at German schools, as this prevents the integration of Muslims in Germany. In connection with the Pro Reli referendum , Ouaqasse emphasized the central and essential task of state religious education in imparting tolerance and education about foreign cultures. In addition to Catholic and Protestant religious instruction , he also calls for greater emphasis on ethics instruction in schools so that young people can get to know different religions together and conduct an interreligious dialogue. In terms of educational policy, Ouaqasse advocates the preservation of the three-tier school system that exists in Germany, comprising grammar school, secondary school and secondary school, as this system has proven itself. Ouaqasse does not consider the legal institution of dual nationality for migrants living in Germany to be necessary.

After the rampage in Ludwigshafen am Rhein in February 2010, Ouaqasse publicly advocated stronger security measures in schools. He demanded unannounced police patrols in school yards, the use of private security companies and access authorization to the school premises via chip cards.

From 2012 to 2014 he was an assessor in the state board of the Europa-Union Thuringia. From 2012 to 2014 Ouaqasse was a member of the CDU federal board as an assessor. In February 2014, Younes Ouaqasse ran for a promising place on the list when the Thuringian candidates were nominated for the European elections . However, he was defeated in two fight candidates, including the incumbent Thuringian MEP Dieter-Lebrecht Koch .
