Youth Brigade is a punk rock / melodic hardcore band from Hollywood, USA . The band only recorded a few albums, but as the founder of the Better Youth Organization (BYO), an indie label and booking agency, had a lasting influence on punk.
history
The band was formed in 1980 in California by the brothers Mark, Adam and Shawn Stern . All three attended Beverly Hills High School in the town of the same name in California. The band broke up several times and reformed again, sometimes only for a few concerts. In 2006 the band was featured with a title on the soundtrack of the gonzo film Fuck the System by director Rob Rotten .
Youth Brigade's first and most influential album, Sound and Fury , was released in 1983 through BYO, a label founded the year before by Shawn and Mark Stern. Several tracks on the album, including We'll Sink with California and What Will the Revolution Change , were self-reflective criticisms of the punk movement . There are two different versions of this record, the first, rarer, containing different pieces than the second. The second version is now also known as Sink With California as CD. The first edition is also available as an Out Of Print on CD. Johnny "2 Bags" Wickersham, then a member of the Youth Brigade, is now the guitarist for Social Distortion . The brothers Marc and Adam played in the early 1990s with the neoswing band Royal Crown Revue .
style
The band started with classic hardcore , but later became calmer, more melodic and more harmonious. The band shaped the skate punk that arose from the melodic hardcore / hardcore punk of the west coast . Allmusic describes Youth Brigade as "one of the best hardcore bands that Los Angeles produced during the punk era".
