51 Andromedae (proper name: Nembus , former name Ypsilon Persei ) is a bright K-type giant in the constellation Andromeda and is around 174 light years from Earth .
The star is already mentioned by Ptolemy in the Almagest and placed in the constellation Andromeda. In Johann Bayer's Uranometria from 1603, the star appears as υ Persei in the constellation of Perseus . The International Astronomical Union moved the celestial body back into the constellation Andromeda and John Flamsteed's designation 51 Andromedae prevailed. Both Johann Bayer and Johann Elert Bode use the name of the star as a nembus .
