Yucca glauca subsp. albertana (English common name : "Palliser Triangle Yucca") is a subspecies of the blue-green palm lily ( Yucca glauca ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).
description
Yucca glauca subsp. albertana grows solitary, without trunk. It forms small groups with two to four rosettes and a diameter of up to 1 meter. The thin, soft, flexible, light green leaves are 20 to 40 cm long and 1 cm wide. There are fine fibers on the leaf margins. The inflorescence that begins in the leaves is 0.4 to 0.8 meters high. The bell-shaped, pendulous, white, cream-colored flowers are 2.5 cm long and wide. The subspecies is smaller in all dimensions and does not form a trunk in contrast to the other representatives of the Glauca group.
The flowering time is in July. Yucca glauca subsp. albertana is in Central Europe to minus 20 ° C hardy . It is one of the toughest species in the genus. Ten-year-old specimens are in F. Hochstätter's collection. The species is rare.
distribution
Yucca glauca subsp. albertana grows endemically in semi-arid grasslands in Canada and in the USA in Montana near the USA / Canada border at altitudes of 700 to 900 m and is there associated with Escobaria vivipara and Opuntia polyacantha .
