Yucca whipplei subsp. caespitosa (English common name : "Haines Caespitosa Yucca") is a subspecies of the plant species Yucca whipplei in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).

description

Yucca whipplei subsp. caespitosa grows solitary or forms groups with over 50 rosettes. The flexible, finely toothed, blue to gray leaves are 20 cm to 50 cm long and 1 cm to 2 cm wide.

The branched inflorescence is 1.5 to 3 meters high. The fragrant, spherical, drooping flowers are 2 to 3 cm long and 1 to 2 cm wide. The flowers are white to cream-colored, with purple tips. In contrast to the subspecies Yucca whipplei subsp. whipplei , the leaves of the species are shorter and more rigid. The flowering period extends from April to June. They are rare in the collections in Europe.

Yucca whipplei subsp. caespitosa is common in the USA in California at altitudes between 500 and 1200 m.
