Yun Humyŏng

Yun Humyong (born January 17, 1946 in Kangnŭng , Kangwon-do ) is a South Korean writer .

Life

Yun Humyong was 1946 in Kangnung in the province of Kangwon born. In 1956, the family moved to Taejŏn because of the transfer of his father, a judicial officer in the military, and to Seoul through Park Chung-hee following the May 16, 1962 military coup . For Yun, Seoul was a place where he felt strange and lonely, and it was through this feeling that his tendency to write developed. At first he wrote poetry and applied with his poetry and prose for writing activities at the school magazine "Hakwon". He was initially unable to assert himself against his father, who had always seen his son professionally as his successor, and studied law instead of Korean literature.

In 1965 he began studying philosophy at Yonsei University in Seoul. But his interest in philosophy was temporary. He socialized with his literary friends, wrote other poems and wrote himself as a guest student at the Sorabol Art School in order to enjoy the liberal, literary atmosphere there. In 1967, when he was 21 years old, his poem Der Gletschervogel was awarded the prize for young writers by the daily newspaper Kyŏnghyang sinmun , and his career as a writer began. In 1969 he published the booklet of the literary circle The Seventies and began working for the Samjŏngdang publishing house. Over the next decade, he worked for several publishing houses while he was writing. In 1977 his first volume of poetry, Masters in Archery, was published .

After twelve years of poetic creation, he began to write prose. His short story grave work was awarded the 1979 prize for young writers by the daily Hankook Ilbo . In 1980 he published the magazine of the literary group The Writers , and then other stories appeared, including a. Love in Dunhuang , All the stars play music , The memory of the Alhambra , depicting the urge to escape from monotonous, stuffy everyday life into the landscape of antiquity and the mystical realm of fantasy.

In the 1980s, when the Korean literary landscape was mainly characterized by realism , he created his extraordinary literary world, which is not directly burdened by reality. He went on a world tour. In 1983 he was a member of the delegation of the Ministry of Culture and Information on cultural tours in France, Italy, India, Indonesia and Singapore. The key theme of his novels was self-discovery through temporal change in foreign space.
