Yusuf Lule

Yusuf Kironde Lule ( 1912 - January 22, 1985 in London ) was a Ugandan politician .

Lule was a professor and director of Makerere University . In 1978 he co-founded the Uganda National Liberation Front (UNLF) in Moshi ( Tanzania ) , which actively participated in the invasion of Tanzanian troops in Uganda and the overthrow of Idi Amin .

On April 13, 1979, the National Consultative Council (NCC) was installed as parliament and Lule was appointed President of the UNLF, as he was the most likely to be accepted as a compromise as an academic among the otherwise mostly military-trained leaders of the NCC. He was replaced by Godfrey Binaisa on June 20, 1979, under the influence of the Tanzanian President Julius Nyerere .

In February 1981, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) was founded in southern Uganda under Lule's leadership .

One of his daughter is Liliane Waldner . She lives in Zurich.
