Yvan Lachaud (born March 4, 1954 in Nîmes ) is a French politician . He was a member of the National Assembly from 2002 to 2012 . Since 2014 he has been President of the Nîmes Métropole Municipal Association .

Lachaud is a math teacher by profession and was director of a private school from 1988.

As a member of the Union pour la démocratie française (UDF), he entered the city council of Nîmes in 1995. From 1997 to 2007 he was chairman of the UDF association in the Gard department . From 1998 to 2002 he was a member of the Regional Council of Languedoc-Roussillon . In 2001 he became deputy to Jean-Paul Fournier , the mayor of Nîmes. In the parliamentary elections in 2002 he stood for the centrist UDF and entered parliament. When the UDF split in 2007, he joined the Nouveau Center , whose association in the Gard department he has headed ever since. In the same year he was re-elected as a MP. From June 2011 until the end of the legislative period in June 2012 he was parliamentary group leader of the Nouveau Center in the National Assembly.

He ran again in the parliamentary elections in 2012 , but failed in the second ballot with 34.3% against the socialist Françoise Dumas , who achieved 41.9%. The right-wing extremist Julien Sanchez achieved 23.8%, with which in fact a majority of the right existed, but this did not materialize. Lachaud criticized this situation in response to his defeat. In March 2014, Lachaud was elected to succeed Jean-Paul Fournier as President of the Nîmes Métropole Association of Municipalities , to which the city of Nîmes and the surrounding communities have come together. Since December 2016 he has been vice-chairman of Les Centristes , the successor party to the Nouveau Center. In June 2017, he resigned as deputy mayor of Nîmes to avoid accumulating offices.
