Yvonne Weber

Yvonne Weber (born November 14, 1974 in Berlin ) is a former German national basketball player . She currently works as a primary school teacher.

Career

Yvonne Weber - at that time still Kunze - started playing basketball at the Berlin district club TuS Lichterfelde at the age of six and won three German youth championships with this club. In 1992 she moved to the first women's team of the club, which at the time played in the 2nd Bundesliga North. After graduating from high school in 1994 at the Goethe High School in Berlin, she moved to Washington State University ( USA ) in 1995 , where she studied communications and graduated in 1998 with a bachelor's degree. During this time she played in the local university team.

National team

On April 27, 1996, the 1.94 m tall athlete made her debut in the match against Portugal in the senior national team and won the bronze medal with this at the European Championships in Hungary in 1997; this was followed by an 8-year break in her national team career. It was not until 2005 that she was called back to the national team and played the European championship with them. On September 11, 2005, she had her last national team appearance in the game against Romania. Weber scored 45 points in 49 national appearances.

Professional career and profession

In 1998 the center moved to the Wildcats Aschaffenburg. Following the German season, she signed a two-month contract in Chengdu ( PR China ) and played at the Sichuan Basketball Club in the Chinese professional league. When the contract was to be extended secretly and against her will, she fled the country. From the 1999/2000 season, Yvonne Weber played for BC Marburg in the 1st women's basketball league .

Back in Germany, she began studying to be a primary school teacher at the Justus Liebig University in Gießen and in 2002 she married. 2003 was a particularly eventful year for Yvonne Weber. She successfully completed her teaching degree , received a traineeship in Salzboden , and became German champion and cup winner with the BC Marburg . In 2005 she was the most successful basket hunter in the 1st Bundesliga with 422 points and was again nominated for the national team. Yvonne Weber ended her first division career in 2008 and was bid farewell at the 2008 season opening in Marburg. In the 2013/2014 season, she played a few games for the then second division club Krofdorf-Gleiberg.

Yvonne Weber is married and has two children.
