The Z. Zeitschrift Marxistische Erneuerung (called Z. for short ) is a theoretical-political quarterly magazine that was created in 1990 from the former “Renewal Current” of the DKP and the Institute for Marxist Studies and Research (IMSF) in Frankfurt, which previously belonged to the DKP emerged on the Main . The initiator was the economist and previous IMSF director Heinz Jung († 1996). It appears in A5 format with around 200 pages. The main topics of the individual issues relate to current discussions of the anti-capitalist left. The magazine cooperates with Linksnet .

The founders resolved to make a contribution to the pluralistic, undogmatic renewal of Marxist thought after the collapse of “real socialism” . Due to the background, a large number of the authors initially came from the DKP (mainly former members who had resigned, but also current members) and their former environment, including the former left social democracy, the Left Party and circles of union-related intellectuals. At the same time, the Z is open to new left movements. In addition to articles by German or German-speaking authors, the Z often prints translations of texts by Marxist theorists from other countries. The thematic focus section is usually followed by a few articles outside the focus, reports from events and detailed reviews of newly published books.

Members of the editorial team in 2019 were Stefan Bollinger, Dominik Feldmann, John Lütten, Patrick Ölkrug, Jörg Goldberg , André Leisewitz, Jürgen Reusch, David Salomon, Michael Zander and Gerd Wiegel . The advisory board consists of twelve people, including Frank Deppe , Dieter Boris , Joachim Bischoff , Klaus Pickshaus , Ursula Schumm-Garling and Harald Werner .
