Frank Walter Deppe (born September 23, 1941 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German political scientist .

Life

Frank Deppe studied sociology , political science and economics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main from 1961 and from 1964 at the Philipps University in Marburg . The university changed because Deppe wanted to continue studying sociology with Heinz Maus . Deppe became a member of the SDS in Marburg in 1964 and a member of the Central Committee of the Campaign for Democracy and Disarmament . From 1965 to 1967 he was a member of the federal board of the SDS. It was through this activity that Deppe came into contact with the Marburg Institute of Political Science around Wolfgang Abendroth . From 1965 he also worked there as a research assistant.

In 1967 he co-founded the Socialist Center . 1968 Deppe Wolfgang Abendroth in Marburg was with a thesis on Louis-Auguste Blanqui doctorate ; In 1972 he completed his habilitation. Between 1968 and 1971 he was an academic advisor at the Institute for Sociology at the University of Marburg. In 1972 he was offered a chair for political science there. He was a liaison professor of the Hans Böckler Foundation and head of the European Communities Research Group (FEG) at the Institute for Political Science. From 1971 to 1989 Deppe published in the DKP-affiliated Pahl-Rugenstein Verlag . From 1983 to 1989 he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute for Marxist Studies and Research .

Frank Deppe was elected in 1998 as a member of the learned society Leibniz Society of Sciences in Berlin .

In 2006 he retired . On July 15, 2006, he gave his farewell lecture on the subject of crisis and renewal of Marxist theory . He is a member of the Die Linke party . He is also a member of the editorial board of the Z. Zeitschrift Marxistische Erneuerung and is co-editor of the journal Sozialismus .

On December 1, 2012, he was elected to the board of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation . He has been a member of the foundation's scientific advisory board since January 2020.

Political theory, history, and politics of the German and international labor movement are among the focal points of Deppe's research, as well as the political sociology of trade unions, European integration, and international political economy.

The medical sociologist and social medicine specialist Hans-Ulrich Deppe is his brother.
