Zach Whyte

Zack Whyte or Zach Whyte (* 1898 in Richmond , Kentucky , † March 10, 1967 in Kentucky) was an American jazz bandleader and banjo player . He became known as the leader of the Territory Band Chocolate Beau Brummels .

Life

Zack Whyte studied at Wilberforce University , where he worked as a banjo player in Horace Henderson's band and arranged pieces for him. In the early 1920s he began working with his own bands from Cincinnati and then formed his Chocolate Beau Brummels at the end of the decade. With this band he made records for Gennett Records , Supertone Records and Champion Records . Some of these recordings appeared under pseudonyms such as "Eddie Walker & His Band" and "Smoke Jackson & His Red Onions".

Many well-known jazz musicians played in Zack Whyte's bands such as Quentin Jackson , Herman Chittison , Jerry Blake , Truck Parham , George Hudson , Sy Oliver , Roy Eldridge , Vic Dickenson and Al Sears .
