Truck Parham
Charles Valdez "Truck" Parham (born January 25, 1911 in Chicago ; † June 5, 2002 ) was an American bassist of swing and Dixieland jazz .

Truck Parham had seven years of singing lessons, but initially worked as a professional athlete; he was a boxer and played football for the Chicago Negro All Stars . Before he switched to bass, he was a drummer; he learned the double bass from the legendary Basie bassist Walter Page . Parham worked in Zack Whyte's Territory Band from 1932 to 1934, mostly in Cincinnati . After he returned to Chicago, he played with Zutty Singleton , Roy Eldridge (1936-1938), Art Tatum and Bob Shoffner in the 1930s . In 1940 he became a member of the Earl Hines Orchestra , where he stayed for two years; he then switched to Jimmie Lunceford (1942-1947), then played again with Muggsy Spanier in his revival band (1950-1955), later with Herbie Fields (1956-1957), again with Hines and Louie Bellson . During the 1960s he worked primarily with Art Hodes and played in numerous Dixieland bands, such as Big Chief Russell Moore . Parham has been involved in recordings by Mildred Bailey , Roy Eldridge, Earl Hines , Jimmy Lunceford, Pearl Bailey , Muggsy Spanier and Louie Bellson.
